ABOUT THE SHOW:

A story of resilience and the power of community, this energetic reimagining of Robin Hood for our times follows a young professional Marian, recently moved to the rapidly gentrifying neighborhood of New Nottingham, only to get embroiled in the conflict between her unhoused neighbors, the landlords, and the Sheriff. Laugh, cheer, and sing along with Robin and the Merry Folx as they hatch an audacious plan to steal a life of dignity for all.

Written by local Portland artists, “Ballad of the Merry Folx” is a rollicking original musical that lovingly recaptures the anarchic spirit of the medieval source material and infuses it with humor and relevance. It’s an exciting story of defying oppression, and falling in love during a quarterstaff duel. The music is a mix of Folk, Americana, and Punk, with ripping fiddle solos, and refrains that will make you stomp and clap, reminiscent of Hadestown or Oklahoma, with a pinch of Newsies, and played by a live folk band. This show is rated PG12**.

Jaimie, Max, Spencer, Kelly, and Steve are your typical Dungeons & Dragons group with their typical campaign. That is until the group decides to "branch out" and play a mysterious role playing game called “Guilds of Manzoa”. Through the game, the group of friends is transported to a fantasy world where they discover 3 elder dragons (posing as greedy billionaire business moguls in the real world) that control both realms with their hoards of wealth. In order to save mankind they must band together and destroy the evil dragons.

Written by local Portland artists, “Guilds of Manzoa” is a hilarious musical teaming with fantasy tropes, meta humor, and overall nerdiness that any fantasy or D&D fan will love. It’s a quirky and campy adventure tale with a sprinkle of socioeconomic satire. The score is a mix of traditional power metal, heavy metal, classic rock, and even rap/rock with hilarious lyrics reminiscent of hammy Broadway musicals like The Book of Mormon and Spamalot with a twist of Tenacious D.
